I've always fed them enough so they'll always have fairly fresh food in their bowls at all times. That way they can eat when they want to. Then mix it in with fresh meat we'd get from the butch shop. or super market. when it got out of date to sell off the shelf. Meat still good but according to USDA guide lines out of date.
I've just always made sure they'd have plenty to eat all the time so they can eat when they want to.
Only trouble have with that is when it gets dry and creeks dry up. Sasha and Gato will show up. And those two cats can empty a 50 pound sack of dog food a piece in one night. If they haven't had any luck killing a deer or hog.

And that's why when I am outside I always have pistol with me. Either 44 mag., 357 mag, or 40 cal auto just in case. They start getting too close for comfort so I can fire a warning shot and make them back off to a safe distance.

I'm not an expert but I used to have a Great Pyrignese and they're a pretty big dog. I used to feed him a large scoop of food 2 to 3 times a day. Right after he'd finish I'd make sure to let him out as well but that's besides the point. 2-3 times a day like a human worked for my dog and we fed him dry food. I forget which brand though. My dog was around 77 pounds the last time we saw him.

How much you feed them depends on their weight and the guidelines should be on the label of the food you're buying them. Secondly, if you look at the ingredients of most large breed puppy food, it is a lot of the time, very close to what the regular adult food is for that particular brand. And, the adult food is always less expensive than the puppy food. Not telling you what to do, just giving you some "food for thought".

If your feeding dry food, the recommended amount is on the back or side of the bag. But I caution that some manufactures put the amount a little more then they'll eat, so they can sell more food.

Can food should be mixed with dry. This is a good meat supplement that dogs need. As a predator they hunted meat not chicken or poultry by products.

So the amount you should be feeding your dog is half can of meat with 3 or 4 cups of dry, twice a day for his age.

depends what kind of dog food you have. If you have really good and expen sive dog food then they wont be hungry as much and you can probably feed them twice a day. If you have dog that is a reasonable price then id say you can like feed them 3 times a day Morning, A bit after lunch and probably in the eveneing.

The amount of food that they need to be fed should be the back of the bag of food it goes by weight, They should gain weight, if you follow the guidelines.
If you dogs are not gaining weight, please talk to your vet, and ask him what you should if any thing needs to be done differently. And let him know what your concerns are.
Best of luck
