when i open a photo all its giving me is a hand, ive been using the program for a while but now it seems like it wont let me deselect the whole photo........ how do i get this to stop and make it so i can edit them again (i already tryed duplicating the background image)

There are 2 ways, the easiest is the square box on the left gives the options of the paint brush the Lasso tool etc. You hav no doubt selected the Move tool.
This can also be done in the Menu Bar at the top where File Edit are located at the top of the screen.
You may have to spend a little time an familarize yourself with some of the functions this program has, It can get confusing in a hurry even for an expierianced user.
This is one of the most powerful programs on the market, and it is easy to forget how you did something.
