Lets expand this question. The Republican led congress already passed a law the Bush signed to make a fence. If we combined the GPS thing with a fence the size of the Great Wall of China, manned it with the National Guard, and deported every immigrant that has been arrested, pulled over, tattled on, found by ICE, and so on, would that work?

And we could pay for this with money saved ending the war in Iraq.

one more thing. to fill the void of workers in the fields, the farmers could use farming equipment. I have never seen an illegal immigrant picking corn, soybeans, or wheat, so why the heck does California need them to pick lettuce and fruit.

No. It's just not technically pheasible. Any procedure you could use to attach or implant such a device (a GPS /reciever/, probably, and a transponder) in an economical way could be reversed fairly easily. Not to mention it's a disturbingly orwellian infringement on basic rights to privacy for what is technically (/technically/) a fairly minor crime.

It would make more sense to take biometric data, fingerprints, and DNA from deported aliens, and check anyone entering the country against that database. Deportees could be refused legal entry, and if found in the country again, could be subjected to more severe 'repeat offender' or 'three strikes' type penalties.

you are in a state of denial or you are just too naive
if the govt wants they can deport all the illegals within 1 week
and not even let a single illegal sneak into our border
but the govt doesnt want it
because they know that our lazy population wouldnt like to work outside in a field picking vegetables or becaming a maid in a rich household
i m no fan of illegal immigration but if since we Americans are lousy and lazy, our govt has no other option but to let those illegals work for us

Wow, I am against illegal immigration and yet this idea certainly seems a little over the line, no, a lot over the line. Hopefully, we will have other solutions that will work before we would actually consider this.

Why waste our American dollars on GPS for illegals? If we build a big enough and strong enough fence and re enforce the borders with armed forces there should be no problem.

And violate their "civil rights"? The criminal always has to have his rights protected.... to HE__ with the rights of the victims! If only that were feasible. But the ACLU would be right there ... suing (the taxpayers who pay their salaries) ... Ironic, isn't it?! When there is a civil liberties suit, they are suing the taxpayers.... the taxpayers are paying their salaries, court cost , etc.....WE PAY THEM TO SUE US!
They would have a field day with your suggestion !!!

Every immigrant being stopped would have already have had to have been deported. This would not be very effective.

Not only would this be impractical, but a horrible infringement on rights.

It sounds like a good idea. It'd be pretty expensive but it might work. It would probably be easier just to build a wall and have it guarded but that's my opinion. I guess somethings better than nothing.

That would be so SWEET, but it would probably be seen as a violation of "human rights" by someone like the U.N., who sees us all as citizens of the universe anyway.

I'd like to see this happen, but too many out there would see this as the "mark of the beast" a la 666 or something.

I don't think the American public or the international scene are ready for this, but I think it is a GREAT idea myself.
