How far is time square from the Long Island Airport? What is the cheapest/fastest/convenient way to get to Times Square from the Long Island airport? What are some fun things to do in New York on the weekend? I will be there only for one day.

You could rent a car, drive north on Smithtown Avenue to the Long Island Expressway. Just stay on the LIE to the other side of the tunnel and you'll be on Manhattan's east side. By Long Island Railroad take a cab to Ronkonkoma train station. It's 90 minutes to Penn Station.

My guess is that you are flying into MacArthur airport in Islip? How Southwest airlines gets away with telling people this is convenient to NYC is beyond me. They should be sued for false advertising, but that is another topic. Here is your answer. Chepest would be by train. There is a bus at ISP that will take you to the nearest Long Island Railroad (LIRR) station. From there you take the LIRR to NY Penn station. From there you can either walk to times square (about ten blocks) or take any uptown subway one stop to 42nd St/Times Square. Total cost one-way about 13.00. There is a "jitney" service that will take you to the east side of Manhattan and from there you can walk/subway/cab to Times Square. Total cost one-way about 37.00 Then there is the option of taking a cab the entire way which will cost you every bit of $100.00 with tolls and tip.

MacArthur airport I presume! Take either the Ronkonkoma branch or Huntington branch of the Long Island Railroad into Penn Station. I don't recommend driving to NYC. Take your children to the toys r us store, its awesome! Once at Penn, ask at the info booths. Have fun!

Train - and the weekend has nothing to do with it.
