Alot of kid now have cell phones. It all really depends on how responsible your child is. If your child can carry something around all day and not loose it or give it away then they are ready to have a celly. There is a new Disney cell phone just for kids. The parents control how many min. they can be on the phone you can also temporarily put a hold on talking if you ground your child for any reason. There is also a tracking device so that you can always see where your child is. It would be a great investment and make you kid happy

Oh my goodness, you people are crazy my child will be having a job of their own and paying their own cell bill before they have a cell phone if you can't keep track of your 6 year old without them carrying a cell phone you have a serious problem. What happened to the days when 6 year olds had to stay in the backyard where you can see them from the house, there was no need for a cell phone you would yell and they had to come running to find out what you wanted?

Who cares about age or responsibility....they make cell phones that are actually only about 3 or 4 buttons and you can get them programmed to call only certain numbers, like 911, police, parents numbers, etc. That way you don't have to worry about a phone bill being more than it cost to buy a car and you know your kids have some way of reaching they're parents without tracking down a pay phone and needing 50 cents to make a call.

When your child has a job and shows responsibility then I would give him/her a cell phone but not a moment before.

I think It depends on the maturity level of the child. Of course if the child has a job and can pay that would be the age. (14)

my eldest 2 have them, my son is almost 16 and uses is for what it is for , emergencies, step daughter almost 13 has one and she basically uses it just to chat on , they both get £5 per month pone allowance, sons lasts 5/6 month while stepdaughters lasts 5/6 days.. she gets no more though so misses out as son can spend his extra allowance on what he wants where hers gets wasted on her phone........
my 10 yr old wants a phone but as yet has no reason to need one.

They have to be responsible enough not to lose it, play with it in class, text message out the wazoo, etc. If we gave it to them when they were ready, they'd be 25. But since we love them, we give it to them at 15.
