I use a big cooler for dry ice and put a cookie sheet over dry ice then towel on c/sheet place food on towel(if not dry ice will freeze to containers).Dry ice is good idea but is costly best for long trips or large amount of goods to keep cold!
I would say spend the money for a good 5 day cooler and use ice.
TIP - Use plastic storage bins lined with plastic wrap filled with water and freeze to make your own ice blocks to start your trip out with! In good cooler they will last for the first 3 days of trip then just buy bag ice later on!

I have done that before .Just dont touch the ice .It will only freeze the food if you use too much .Keep it wrapped in Freezer paper or a towel .
