My cat was recently diagnosed with diabetes. She also has a a urinary tract infection. We're trying to fatten her up.
I have to give her pills every day and shoving a pill down her throat is not an option (we tried everything.) We've been crushing it and putting it in turkey baby food. That seemed to work ok until recently. Now, she won't touch the stuff! Also tried Fancy Feast (an old favorite) to no avail. Anyone have any favorites they can share?

Meat baby food is usually a good choice. The chicken is pretty bland, but cats seem to love it. Use the straight meat, not the dinners.
If she does not like the turkey, try the veal. Many cats really love that. It skins though.
Amny cats that are ill will eat one thing one day and not the next. You may have to stock several choices and go day by day.

I have never been sucessful with CRUSHING PILLS. Cats are way to smart for that come on.

I have always had great success with cutting the pill very small like 1/4 and hiding it in treats like POUNCE SOFT HAIRBALL TREATS. They have a little pocket of Hairball jelly in the middle you can open one end pop the 1/4 pill in and give to cat. Make sure he likes them first without pill. Also some success with PILL POCKETS but not easy to find and not as good tasting.
Also CANNED SCIENCE DIET AD
it is like pudding consistancy and if you take a small ball of it with the pill in the middle hiden most cats will pick it up and eat no problem, also as before try this without pill first to make sure he likes it. Most CATS GO CRAZY OVER CANNED AD we use it all the time for cats who are not eating well at the kennel.

Chances are the cat won't even touch it. Cats don't just eat anything. I'm sure that once he smells it, he will back away. We generally don't have to worry about cats getting into food like that. They are very picky eaters.

My cats love 9Lives Tuna...and have you tried to put some catnip on the food??? My vet gave me some food that I would mix with water to make it soupy..then he gave me a big syringe looking thing to "inject" it carefully into the mouth...this worked well..and my cat loved the food...I only had to use the syringe thingy twice..lol...might ask the vet about that...

try mixing the powdered pill in some butter or canned salmon. we used to have to take the cat with us sometimes and it was carsick. he loved butter and it was natural to put the pill there. we didn't even have to crush it becaust the oil makes it go right down.. salmon is irrisistable to most cats

Do not give her tuna.

You can keep trying different flavors of the wet food.

You can try soaking some dry food with chicken broth until it gets smushy.

When my cat got sick, he kept changing his mind about what he would eat. I started experimenting with different temperatures. Some days he wanted his food ice cold, other days he wanted it warm, almost hot. Either that or he was just manipulating me to see how much trouble I would go through to get him to eat!

We've always used tuna (in water) when giving our cats pills (ground up of course). It never fails.
