Everything must be in sync with each other. Your body may give the appearance of happiness but you can not fool yourself or your soul. Probably the most unhappy situation for a person is money and paying bills. Okay death is a big one but I am talking about things you can control. People all over the world stress about paying bills and not having enough money. I,myself, am stressing about BILLS. My family has recently had a financial set back. Around May we have fallen behind on bills. They show up as current but we are being hit with a lot of late fees. Of course I try to find an option, a way to help us and fast. I am always looking for a quick fix. So I applied for a personal loan. Being rejected because of bad credit really opened my eyes to what we need to do to fix this situation. Instead of a bad credit personal loan with a choking high interest rate we have decided to just tackle our debt on our own. We got some great advice on MSN about snowballing our debts. This is a great idea. Paying off all our debt within 17 month sounds better than a debt counseling service or another loan. I was stressed and worried which lead to my unhappiness. But now there is a dim light at the end of the tunnel. And in 17 months the light will be well lit and it will say I am debt free. I can feel the happiness in my soul which puts my mind and body at ease. Now I must remain disciplined and stay debt free. I see happiness!

Ya know...wasn't going to answer this, even though I like the question. There is one thing I would like to say though to any who feel there is no such thing as 'spirit.' And I am not talking ghosts here...
Having worked EMS for several years (12+) I have seen many things. I had my doubts, even then, but what I saw opened my mind. The body is a wonderful thing for sure, the brain is absolutely amazing...but there is something else, something we cannot see or even comprehend that makes us who we are. Call it what you will, but it exists..in my humble opinion.
So..can we be truly happy...yes we can, but we can be even happier/content/satisfied if we are able to have all of our being working together. How happy depends on you, the single distinct person. If one is less, the others may rise up, so happiness is a state of being, of mind body and spirit if you will. This has nothing to do with any specific religion..this has to do with life.
It's up to you to believe or not. I can only tell you what I have seen and what I believe. The choice to learn is yours and yours alone.

Nope. I'm pretty happy just eating Mcdonalds.
Ah screw it I'll answer a bit more properly. Yes I think I personally would be truly happy if my mind and body worked harmoniously. I don't believe in spirits though. The mind is just the brain doing its thing as far as I'm concerned.

I don't completely believe that. I've known many people that have been very ill, even terminally ill and they are happy. My dad was the greatest example, he had lung cancer for 5 years and had the greatest attitude of anyone I've ever seen with cancer. He even lived 3 years longer than most do with that disease. He was so happy, so happy for his family and the life that he had had. He passed away 2 years ago very peacefully at 71 years of age, he wasn't even in any pain.

mos def...i see it as the body mind and spirit is like a cars engine every piece has to work together, from the firing of the spark plugs to the gasoline that it takes or ethanol to the oil that must keep those parts running. but if you don't add oil or gas it stops working. see oil as sleep and gas as food, I get cranky as heck if you don't sleep, and i cant think if i don't eat

I think we can be happy in a lot of ways--people say if they all are working perfectly together then everything is really great. for me, if one of them is working well I'm happy!!
