I want to enjoy life, bring up my kids well, leave the world a slightly better place than when I joined it, and die having no major regrets about what I have or haven't done in my life.

It would be fabulous if it was all about self-fulfillment, but it isn't. That is too grandiose. The truth is that life is rather mundane. We are born, we live, we reproduce, and we die. Same with my dog, and the spiders in my garage.

It's what we do in between the beginning and the end that make it all worthwhile. It is all about the journey because that's all we know for certain that we have; unlike the spider and the dog, we are aware of the finite nature of existence.

I live my life for my kids, my family, my friends, and to experience this wonderful world on which I was very lucky to be born.

You're setting up a false dichotomy: you're either religious or you only care about yourself. Being a secular humanist is about self-fulfillment, but most people find that a significant part of that is positive involvement with others. You don't need religion to be involved with other people in positive ways. When you do that, everyone wins. You are enriching your own life and the lives of other people. No God required.

I live for my son, my husband, my brother, my parents, my friends, and the many wonderful people I happen to encounter during my life. I believe we are all citizens of earth, and I believe all people have intrinsic value. It's not fair to assume that atheists are only interested in self fulfillment.

I live for myself and my loved ones, when god kills a woman, a child, with a bomb on the side of a road as they go about their business who does he /she live for.

Whether you believe in God or not, I surely hope you don't live your life exclusively for a supernatural being you've never seen.

Of course it does. I don't live my life for anyone. I'm just alive. Obviously I have friends and family and all that, but I don't live for them.

for myself and those i love. also i realize that life has no inherent meaning, only that which you make. Beside, last i checked, those of you "living life for your god" like to claim all sorts of nasty things in the name of your god,so i think im better off in selffullfilment than delusional belief in a diety to make my life have value. DuH!

The real question is, If you don't believe in an afterlife or any typing of saving then who would you die for?
