While I was thinking about the heat the thought crossed my mind, could the AC taking the heat from inside our homes to the outside be making it hotter outside?

Air conditioning is one of the many contributors to global warming.

When an AC Unit is run it removes heat from the air inside the building and transfers it to the outside instead, on this basis all it's doing is moving the heat around.

The power needed to run the AC will likely be a contributor to global warming. Unless the power comes from nuclear or a renewable energy source then the generation of the electricity at a power station will have resulted in the emission of greenhouse gases.

The most common coolant in many AC units is a powerful greenhouse gas. Freon 12 is the trade name for one such coolant, the chemical name is dichlorodifluoromethane. In equal measures one unit causes the same amount of global warming as 8,500 units of carbon dioxide (specifically it has 100 year GWP of 8,500).

Actually, yes it is. Many people forget that we have to be careful of what we do and how we use such conveniences as the air conditioner, in which the Earth's health slowly declines and we have more and more health related issues in today's society we have to take care of. When you don't take care of your air conditioner properly, you set the stage for the outbreak of micro-organisms that contribute to anything from the common, everyday cold to pneumonia, or even asthma. Not to mention the fact of an air conditioner, if not maintained properly, that we lose much heating and get more electric bills. I mean, I understand that air conditioning was made for faster cooling, and to keep us from going into heat, but...why not opening the windows in every room for a chance? I do care for this Earth, but sometimes, I do forget and turn on the air conditioning for faster cooling, and I am sorry if you are obsessed with global warming, but I do find air conditioning quite useful if you use it the RIGHT way. Overall, sometimes, air conditioning isn't the cause of global warming. The real problems we have to watch out for that DO cause global warming, no matter what, are the carbon dioxide from power plants, carbon dioxide emitted from cars, the pollution on our grounds and in the oceans, deforestation, tundra, and so on.

you have hit on yet another conspiracy concept. seem to the motor vehicle marketplace, petrochem and ability industries just to call some. have you ever any theory what share hundreds of thousands of pounds of pollutants international places like Russia, China, North Korea, and specific, even the u . s . a . pump into the ambience each and every hour? verify it out, then problem much relating to the way forward for the planet, and what would be left at the back of for destiny generations. to characteristic to the issue, Uncle George (Bush) makes statements like there is not any worldwide warming.

Where I am, right now it's cold outside, so I have the heater on.
When it's hot I do turn on the air con, the only effect would be increased power usage, and a cooler house.
You may as well be comfortable, what ever is happening outside.

In a small way, yes.

Mechanical inefficiency is given off as heat. Even though, theoretically air, conditioners are just transferring heat from one place to another, there will always be excess heat lost from the system.

Yeah check the proximity to the temperature monitors at surfacestations.org to air conditioning heat vents.

It uses electricity, which most cities burn coal to produce. Burning coal produces Carbon Dioxide, which is a greenhouse gas and a major contributor to global warming. So yes, running your AC contributes, but so does using the microwave oven.

If everybody turned the AC on full blast and opened all the windows all the cool air would solve global warming. Problem solved.

'A cause of global warming?' No!

The earth has a cycle, it heats up and then cools down just ask any paleontologist.

I believe that man, with all of his mechanize means, is accelerating that cycle.

Why dont we all just give up everything...Cars, AC, Smoking, and go back to the horse and buggy days..I'm sure that will get rid of global warming. Seriously do you think everyone will possibly give up all those things...I dought it. Just live your life.
