i get pulled over a lot, cops love to hate on my S2000, i just got nailed for 92 in Jersey. my insurance is a fortune, i had more than 8 points on my license and even when I slow down the cops just lie about the speeds they caught me at. help me pick a radar detector thats gonna keep me from getting harassed by the POLICE.

To me the best bang for your bunch radar detector is the BEL 955, for $179 at RadarBusters.com. The BEL 955 is not the best but it is certainly up there with the top 3 radar detectors [Escort 8500 X50($300), BEL RX65 ($329.99), and Valentine 1($400)] I personally have a BEL Vector 995($270) and Valentine 1($400) and their is only a slight difference in detection range. I like both detectors equally due to their unique features.

The BEST radar detector is relative to the features you like/need.....There are 5 radar detectors with equal performance in most respects and will save you tickets contrary to what some will tell you. The Top 5 radar detectors are (in no specific order) the:

I personally use the Valentine 1 as well as the BEL vector 995 both have saved me huge fines when dealing with police radar. But for dealing with Laser you really needs a laser jammer (illegal in some states) I use a Blinder M20 and Anti-Laser laser jammers on my Volvo along with VEIL stealth coating and LaserShield plate cover.

For those that say a radar detector is just a ticket notifier obviously don't have experience with a top level detector. Ask any of my friends that ride in my car. My detectors both sniff out cops easily and give me plenty of time to slow down when usually going 10-15mph over the limit.

Yeah, I think you'd be best of with a Escort 8500 X50, if you can make use of it, that is. Its what I'm "using" right now.

Really though, you need to slow down and smell the roses, but I'm not your dad- nor nowhere near that age. So yeah, Bill has some good advice. Anyways...

What I do is use the X50 in the background. Every so often when it beeps, I'll slow down if I havent already. It dam* well wont help you get away from tickets, especially on the highway because there are other ways of getting your speed.

Nothing that says it scrambles will work. If you want laser jammers, they are legal and hidden + cops cant give you shi* about it, and they work (Blinders are the best).

And I picked the X50 over the new 9500 b/c people are having issues w/ it and the X50 works better. Stay w/ escort. The blue display is brighter than the red, other than the color, there is no diff b/t the two.

But believe me, nothing will help you as much as just slowing down to 80-85. Look far ahead, and use your eyes. Most of the time I drive, I pick out cops before the radar (if the cop even has his radar on- not that likely). Check rearview often.

And if you do get caught, keep your mouth shut, and make up a believeable excuse if you can. Nothing stupid though. Swallow your pride. Shut off your car. Roll down the windows. Be polite. Make it so he can forget about you as quickly as possible, when-and I mean when, you go to court.

And trust me on this, I've talked my way out of a 45 over ticket on the highway with my radar in the car mounted in plain sight. Also bear in mind they hate me about as much as you, I drive a Infiniti G. That was the only time I've been pulled over.
