call the nearest gun dealer or police station (don't dial 911) and ask how to register a handgun.

Depends on where in the Country you live in. Other than some major metropolitan cities and some states like NY or CA you don't have to register a firearm. Call the local Police station(definitely call the non-emergency #!) or a local gun shop and ask if you need to. If not, don't worry about it.

It all depends on the state in which you live. Here in NY you would need a permit, very hard to get, and then each county can also put restrictions on what you have or can do.

Assuming you can legally own/posses a firearm, contact a local gun shop. You need someone with a Federal Firearms License to make the switch in ownership.

First of all, find out if registration is required in you area. If it is NOT, it would be foolish to register it. Registration is the first step to gun confiscation.

California is a tough state to be a gun owner- lots of bureaucratic hoops to jump through...look here:
