I'm sorry that you didn't hear the US has outsourced the Sino-American War to India. They just couldn't pass up the jobs.

Great question.
America can support the War for only so long and there's a chance that Taiwan might be knocked about before our carrier battle groups arrive but Taiwan survives the initial Chinese missile and aerial strikes the situation will be deadly. Chinese anti ship missles in a strait would most certainly do heavy damage. Also the Chinese airforce is logistically close to its base. It doesnt even need to use carriers.
China will probably win unless we create a large military blockade to protect Taiwan.
We could win if we:
a) Knock out the Chinese airforce
b) defeat the Chinese navy at sea
c) Place marines and soldiers in Taiwan to repulse any Chinese amphibious operations
but if I were a betting man, I'd put my cash on the People's Republic of China

The American military was much larger in the 1980s, due to a build by President Ronald Reagan.
By the 1990s, the military shrank as the Cold War with the former Soviet Union ended. Though smaller, the American military has more sophisticated weapons systems than before. Despite being only half the size it was twenty years ago, the US Navy is more than able to prevent a Red Chinese invasion of Taiwan.

Silly question. The Chinese may have a large army but, both their technology and tactics are vastly inferior to ours.
In addition, the military cuts you refer to still left the USA with more money spent on "defense" than the rest of the World combined. In fact, the USA spends 5 times as much as China alone.
That's the military answer, as for the economic answer, China needs the USA market. They will NOT fight the USA in a war. Taiwan will continue to be a nuisance for China and that's all.

The US could handle China now we dominate them other than number of troops in every way. If the US went to war with china tomorrow it would win. 20 or 25 years from now who knows but now the US is much strong than China militaraly even with the cuts in the 90's.

The U.S. won't defend Taiwan at all costs because:
a. China has stock piles of nuclear weapons, if they choose to use it. China has ICBM capability and has recently demonstrated its capability to shoot down satellites in the orbit.
b. China holds large amount of U.S. debts. If China starts dumping them, the U.S. financial system and economy will fall into chaos, if not collapsed.
c. The international community will step in to prevent the two superpowers collide with each other.
d. The U.S. has to consider what the Russians will do should a war between U.S. and China broke out. Do you think Russia will tolerate another neighbor fall under U.S. control?

Reagan increased the size of the military during his time as president....
In a conventional war, The united states would decimate the Chinese military. Their far larger ground forces would be negated by superior United States Carrier Task Forces and Air Force presence from Japan.

No nukes? Well how's that any fun?
I don't know, the Chinese do have a good army, but so do we. And no, we'd have to start making things in the USA like we should be, so things might get more expensive, but it's better that way because then our jobs aren't outsourced to Asia if ya ask me...

It seems as if US will have war with any nation in this whole world, for its own foreign policy..Its about time that US keep a check on its military ambition....and I think that US has learned a few lessons from iraq and won't have a war with china, reason being china is a superpower in asia and many countries ranging from korea to india have links with china.
secondly if they do go to war with china, asia would become more hostile towards US which would result in less economic benefits from asia..

There is no way the U.S. can win a land war in Asia especially with China. They could raise a 200,000,000 person army. The only way we could win is with nuclear weapons. The world now has the equivalent of 400,000 Hiroshima bombs. Pretty scary.

Oh, I don't know, they have a big army, but I have thirty round magazines and I'm a better soldier. And lets not forget the U.S. Navy and Air Force. One battle group could take out every ship they have. It took us only a year and a half to annihilate the Japanese Navy, and we didn't have satellites then.
