Prevacid is a PPI - proton pump inhibitor. Have you talked to your doctor about possibly prescribing one that the co-pay is less?
Besides Prevacid, there is Aciphex, Nexium, and Protonix.

This article talks about heartburn and GERD. It also mentions several over the counter medications that can be used.

I understand believe me, Nexiums even worse! My hubbys on it, and its ridiculous! I think your best bet would be to take Prilosec OTC, (maybe even 2 times a day if its not seeming to work) and see how that works. Of course you want to check with your Dr...but its worth a shot. Also, see if they have samples, a lot of times they have bunches they can give you!
