I can't just flip a switch and say I believe in this or that. There's something called instinct that makes me believe what I want to believe. Why can't some of you understand that??

Maybe you can't control it, but it's not an "instinct." Statistically speaking, your parents and culture will by and large determine your belief choices. If you have the emotional/intellectual equipment, there is a small chance you will adopt some other set of beliefs, or you will reject the beliefs you were raised with. But again, people usually adopt the beliefs of their parents and/or other "close" groups.

This is why we are not surprised that a large majority of Indians are Hindus, or that the vast majority of Italians are Catholic. Instinct? Hardly.

Its a scientific fact that you can convince yourself of anything, as long as it makes you comfortable.

That's how it is with all these domestic violence victims who stay with the abuser, because they CHOOSE to believe that he'll change, or they CHOOSE to believe that he couldn't control himself, etc.,.

So, we all basically believe what we want, proving that you CAN control what you believe in.

Scientific polls show that over 90% of people in the world merely follow the faith they were indoctrinated in as children.

There are some of us, though, that actually use our minds to think critically and reject absurdities.

Yes I can

and yes you can.

It's a choice you continually make to believe or not believe.

Those who say it's a choice are dishonest. That is why I can firmly say that Christians lie.

Truth is what is written in your heart and if you follow that why worry what others say.
