My parents raised me to be generic Christian Protestant (I guess was their intention). I remember being like 7 and asking my mom questions and getting responses that it was bad for me to ask such questions. I wanted to know where the city of Enoch came from if the only people were Adam & Eve and Cain. And how did Noah drop off penguins in antartica and coyotes in the Americas when no one knew the places existed? Why did Moses have to go to hell with all the Asians, Africans, American Indians, etc? I mean he seemed like a nice guy, right? Why didn't god give them all a chance to talk to Jesus? Why was god such a snob as to make one "chosen people"? After being threatened that the devil makes me question god, and that women have periods because of their original sin, I started to think that it was just mind control. Then I started to take science classes. Wow. the answers were right there! No guilt, no threats, just good old common sense. Where to ask question is the whole point. That there is an ever-changing and moldable view of how this world exists. Where if a scientific theory is proved to be incorrect (generous bloodletting with leeches during sickness), it is given up for a better and more educated approach (leeches can be used to bring down swelling). Science can be proven wrong with evidence to the contrary. Religion cannot. Or you go to hell.
Don't even get me started on all the "world peace" that religion spreads across the planet. It wasn't atheists that burned people at the stake or flew a plane into a skyscraper. If you want to be close to a god, talk to him privately and leave the world out of it. He'll understand unless he's just an egomaniac.

I'm an atheist because I learned at a very young age to never stop asking questions. Eventually, I got into high school, and those questions turned to god(s), and I realized how little sense religion actually made. I thought about it for a while (I think I was a Deist for some time) and then I decided, well, if something is the truth it'd better make sense, and atheism was all that was left in that category.

I'm not an atheist, but one thing I will say is that I'm not religious (unless you really do count being Anti-Christian as a religion), and one of the main reasons is that I keep hearing people (especially christians) say that they are 100% positive that the Bible, Christ, Christianity, God, et c are completely incontrivertable, and I think that's such a lie. I think they have risen to a level of belief so high that nothing can convince them otherwise, and that just isn't the same as knowing. Of course, that's not the only reason (or the main one), but it is, as I said, one of the main ones.

The evidence presented in the case for religion in so called holy writings is fatally flawed because of its unreliability.
My experience with 'extreme believers' leads me to believe that there is something basically wrong in religion that needs addressing. In fact I am horrified with what I see done in the name of religion and would not wish to be associated with it.#

I am an atheist because religion never gave me anything I needed. Atheism gives me freedom of thought and reason. It makes sense. It is how life really is without the lies, fairytales, false dogma, cruel gods, mysteries, magic, and hellfire.

Nobody can prove any gods, much less a specific god, exist. People believe in specific gods because of indoctrination from an early age, tradition, hallucinations, fear of torture (for gods sadistic enough to threaten it) and other similarly illogical reasons. But no gods exist in reality; these are all stories, created for people who were scared of the world long before we understood it. Now we have no more reason for these superstitions.

I am an atheist because there is no evidence for god. When there is no evidence, the negative position is logical. You have found no evidence for purple unicorns, so logically, you don't believe in them. I see no evidence for ANY god, so I don't believe in them.

I think religion, at least any I have been exposed to, is illogical, unprovable and archaic. I don't need to believe in God to cope with life.
