humans & other animals ARE SOULS
(Genesis 1:20-21) 20 And God went on to say: “Let the waters swarm forth a swarm of living souls and let flying creatures fly over the earth upon the face of the expanse of the heavens.” 21 And God proceeded to create the great sea monsters and every living soul that moves about. . .

(Genesis 2:7) 7 And Jehovah God proceeded to form the man out of dust from the ground and to blow into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man came to be a living soul. . .

Soul

Definition: In the Bible, “soul” is translated from the Hebrew ne′phesh and the Greek psy‧khe′. Bible usage shows the soul to be a person or an animal or the life that a person or an animal enjoys. To many persons, however, “soul” means the immaterial or spirit part of a human being that survives the death of the physical body. Others understand it to be the principle of life. But these latter views are not Bible teachings.

I don't know. Do you mean if they themselves are souls or do they have souls?

It would be an interesting thought to think that they themselves are souls. Like they hold onto them for us until we are ready to have them. Interesting.

As to whether they have souls, as a person who doesn't especially think that there is an afterlife, if a soul (as I described in another answer) is that which animates molecules and cells and makes them be alive instead of simply a collection of molecules and cells, then yes, animals definitely have souls. Because they are alive, not a collection of non-living tissue.

It depends a lot on a person's definition of a soul.

Possibly.
Sometimes ancient spirits take the physical form of animals.
And sometimes this ancient spirits are animals.
But not always.
Then again...animals could just be animals. But they have souls.
