I avoid it at all costs. I generally only listen to talk radio. I watch videos on my TV (I don't have cable or satellite because the vast majority is garbage). I listen to my own records and CDs (mostly jazz). I rarely go the the movies.
Pop culture is garbage. There is good stuff out there. You just have to look for it.

Pop culture simply refers to all things popular. So there is no way to escape popular things in the media. However, the problem we have had in this country since the 70's/80's is that pop culture is dominated by teens and youth. I am not dissing teens, it's just that their tastes have not matured and that's why pop culture can be so shortsighted and somewhat vapid. Perhaps this will change with time, as generations age.

If you want to get out of the Pop culture, try the library (I do). The Internet is not the best place to look for that sort of thing.

As it started after WW II - As Pop Culture is neither good or bad, I guess it is here to stay for good. (It's people that are good or evil, not things.)

Sooner or later, we're bound to make a 180 degree turn, go "counter culture" again.

Hmmm....you just have to be as independent as you can to step out of it...at least every now and then.
