One of my parakeets, Kairi, fell through the middle of the chimney in my living room and ended up all the way at the bottom of the fire place.. Thank god our fire place wasnt in use...but because it wasnt being used, there was a huge metal wall blocking the whole fire place, and my parakeet, got stuck inside for a while.. after about 15 to 20 minutes I was able to rescue her, but she came out really dirty from all the dust inside... I washed her once yesterday and once today but the dust doesnt seem to come off of her.. She was a white parakeet but now she's all grey!! Im really worried because I dont know if she can get sick from this.. What should I do? Also, she is still flying around just fine, but how would I know if she is hurt, because she did end up all the way at the bottom from where the ceiling was (where the middle of the chimney is)...would she be flying around normally if she was even a little bit hurt??

I doubt your bird is damaged. She just got stained.
There is a product called "Bird bath Spray" which is designed to help. You just mist it onto the bird.

Check at DrsFostermith.com to see several brands of this product.

Good luck

Okay well just keep doing what you are doing. Just spray her with a waterbottle. I also full up my bathtub alittle bit and let my bird play in their. Add some toys to make it more fun. I would just sit on the floor or toilet and go on the computer. May take a day or to but you will have your now grey budgie back to white! Remember no soap!

Hope this helps email with any questions,

EDIT: Rochelle T, i dont meen to be mean but... did you ever hear of an accident!?

Go to your local bird store. Not Pet Smart! And ask for a cleaning solution you can add to a spray bottle to help clean your friend. Also ask if the ashes may be toxic. Other than that you can put your friend in a shallow bowel and let then take a bath. I have even taken my parrots in the shower with me. Just don’t have a bunch of pressure and cover their face as you let the warm water run over them. Please!! Trim your friends wings so this can’t happen again and if you don’t know how, let the pet shop show you. It’s very easy and it could save your friends life! I hope this helps.

Sorry to hear about your bird. If he was hurt, he wouldn't be flying around as he is. Call a pet store to see if they have any ideas as how to clean your bird. They may be able to recommend a cleaning product. Maybe a lot of the dirt & dust will come off while she's flying around. Good luck. :)

Keep misting her heavily, until she is soaked as well as using a damp washcloth to try and get some off yourself. Also go to your local petstore and get a bathing solution. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/Prod_Display.cfm?pcatid=7540&N=2003+113653 Something like the bath time one would do well since it's better than using just water although that is all you can really do right now. Also contact your avain vet for any more ideas while you try adn get ti off ehr feathers. if necessary use Dawn, it's gentle but would help if bathing wasn't working well.

You could use a spray bottle with warm water and just when you spray it let it rain on her . Or you could take a damp warm washcloth, this should take dust off easily. Or give her a shallow bowl of water to wash in on her own.

And you DOWN there she doesn't need a lecture just advice.

She may need a few rounds of spraying, and you could offer her a bowl of warmish water also. I would maybe get the bird clipped if you let the bird out, for it's own safety.

birds hide illnesses extermely well, but not perfectly. if she doesn't fly as well as she used to, sleeps right next to her food bowl (that means she doesn't have enough energy to move around her cage), and/or doesn't talk, chirp, or whistle as much, she might be sick. it sounds to me like your bird is just fine. i think that maybe scratching her lightly while giving her a shower may be a little more effective. i think that maybe , after a while, she might preen all of it out, but i'm not sure.

Put a clean bowl (not a large bowl) of water in the cage, the parakeet will splash around in it and get clean.

We used to bring our cockatiels outside and remove things from their cage and then turn the hose/sprinkle mist setting and just hold it up in the air, and they had a ball. Moonie would just sing and Blackie would just clean his self really good. They would stay outside for alittle while and dry off and then bring then back in.
