This is dependent if there is a chain in effect - ie you or the person who is selling and the person you are buying from is purchasing/selling another property as everything has to conicide to suit all parties - it is also dependent on the mortgage companies issuing the mortgage and sending their surveyor for valuations etc - if there are no chains and no mortgage companies involved the process can be finalised within a few weeks but this does not happen very often ! I know I worked in Solicitors for a number of years mainly in conveyancing - it is also dependent on surveys being OK and searches from the local authority and land registry - ask your Solicitor if there is a chain and he will then give you some idea as to how long the process will take - good luck

I accepted an offer on my house about 5 weeks ago and I'm still here. I don't anticipate going anywhere for a least another month.

You have to exchange contracts first and then a completion date is set to suit both parties. If you both want to move quickly and have good solicitors the completion date can be pretty quick after the exchange, but all the searches and land registry has to be done before you can exchange contracts.
