Well, Adam and Eve had to learn this lesson as grown-up persons, because they had never been children. God knew they needed a lesson like this, so he told them not to eat the fruit that grew on a certain tree in the garden. It was called the "tree of the knowledge of good and evil." And God made it very plain to Adam and Eve that it was really wrong to eat the fruit of this tree, and that if they did eat it they would surely die.
Now there was a serpent in the garden, and being tame it probably played where Eve could watch it. In some way this serpent made Eve believe that it would be all right to eat the fruit of that forbidden tree. The serpent may have eaten some of the fruit just to prove to Eve that God was not telling her the truth when he said the fruit of this tree would kill her.
Of course, the serpent wasn't really smart enough to do this all by itself. Satan caused the serpent to act that way. Satan, was an enemy of God, and that is why he made the serpent deceive Eve.
Yes, Eve was deceived by that serpent, and ate the forbidden fruit. And what was even worse, she coaxed Adam to eat it also. Thus they both did what God told them not to do..
Now the Lord had told Adam and Eve that if they disobeyed him they would die. This meant that they couldn't live on forever and ever enjoying all the wonderful things in the Garden of Eden. instead, sooner or later they would become feeble, and finally die. Death is a terrible thing, isn't it?
And just think, it is because Adam and Eve did as God told them not to do that people all over the world are dying! If it had not been for this, there wouldn't be any sick people in the world.

Nothing was wrong with Eden, Eden was a perfect paradise created for man. The reason Adam and Eve were banished from Eden is that they disobeyed God, then lied about disobeying him. They were tempted by Lucifer, then commited the sin of eating from the Tree of Knowledge.
Sin seperates us from God, this is one of the best examples the Bible gives us.

God walked there. God was there in Eden and He walked among the people. The Garden was Holy and Perfect. When Adam and Eve sinned, no longer were they considered perfect and were cast out of God's presence on Earth.

They had disobeyed God and the Tree of Eternal Life was in the Garden of Eden. They could have received Eternal Life as disobedient sinners if God had not put them out.

Once sin entered the body, corruption and decay and sickness and death entered as well. In the garden was the tree of life, it would've kept them alive forever, and having a decaying body for that long would be just miserable. So in a way, you could say it was God's mercy that made them leave. They still lived a long time though, just not forever.

Because, in choosing to obey the serpent and eat a fruit God specifically commanded them not to eat, they were in effect saying that they didn't need God and they could decide for themselves what is good or bad. That was the real sin. The fruit itself had little to do with it. It was their disobedience that drove them out of the Garden.

DISOBEDIENCE toward God. He warned them that everything was theirs EXCEPT the one blasted tree. He told them to keep their hands off. But, nooooooooooooo, they just had to taste. That is why they had to leave. They made a very bad CHOICE. It all comes down to CHOICES. We still have CHOICES today about our destiny. Choose Christ = life. Deny Christ = death. OUR CHOICE. God doesn't send us anywhere = we do the sending.
