When mosquitos bite, they inject a small amount of a substance called "histamine" into the site. This causes irritation of the surrounding skin cells, including itch. It is also why "anti-histamines" such as Benadryl, work to control the itch.

To help enable effective blood-sucking, it first injects anti-coagulant saliva to stop the blood from clotting or forming a scab while it feeds. When the mosquito goes away, its saliva stays in the pocket under your skin.
Now comes the itchy part. Your body releases histamine to fight off a foreign substance. It's the same as an allergic reaction. The histamine causes swelling around the area and as a side-effect it itches.

When the mosquito stabs her needle-like mouthparts through the skin it injects her saliva -- teeming with digestive enzymes and anticoagulants to which you become sensitized to the foreign proteins, and small, itchy, red bumps appear about 24 hours later and the constant inflammation and scratching only adds to the distribution of the proteins under the skin.

They insert histamine around the area, which itches. If you check out some allergy medicines they say "anti-histamine" which blocks the itch. If your asking me why do mosquitos want you to itch in the first place, i havent got a clue.

When a mesquito bites, they inject salivia into the penetration wound. This causes an alergic reaction which causes the swelling and the itching.

Because of the stuff that they inject into you....everyone is allergic to this stuff (but not in a deadly allergic type way).

mosquitoes release an enzyme to keep your blood from coagulating (clotting). This makes our skin itch.

Because you are getting a slight allergic to the mosquito's venom/spit. It is also what causes the swelling.
