This should be good...

UCC: Liberal, progressive. Founded in 1957 with roots back to 1600's. A union of four principal traditions - Congregational, Christian, Evangelical, and Reformed. All-inclusive of women and LGBTs.

C of C: Conservative. Founded 1906. "Undenominational": each church stands on its own. Limited roles for women. Homophobic.

The UCC also has the nicknamed Congregational. It is a very open church a lot like the Presbyterian. It is also the religion that the Pilgrims were when they came over on the Mayflower, back in the early 1600s. They did not use the King James Bible then. And still do not.

The Church of Christ is a religion that is obsessed with the King James Bible. Believing only it should be used. I have seen free JKB bible studies from a few of them in the south. They also believe that the last time a miracle happened was back in the time of the New Testament.
Since I have experienced a few miracles that science could not explain; I can't agree.

I know that UCC is a Congregationalist Mainline Protestant denomination and are theologically moderate or liberal (depending on the individual congregation), where as (to the best of my knowledge) Church of Christ is a very conservative evangelical group.

I don't know much about the Church of Christ, but I was brought up in a UCC church.

*EDIT* The guy above me is right, many New England UCC congregations descend from the Congregationalist churches of colonial America, but the theology doesn't have that much in common. Remember, Puritans were religious radicals, didn't celebrate Christmas, were very intolerant, strictly enforced the Sabbath, and church services lasted for hours.

The UCC is far more liberal. Some of the other "Church of Christ" groups have prohibitions against female clergy and homosexuals, while the UCC is open to them. The UCC is a mainline Protsestant group known for its progressive attitude, whereas the Churches of Christ are very conservative. Also, the Churches of Christ (non UCC variety) forbid the use of musical instruments in worship.

The United Church of Christ and the Church of Christ are definitely very different. The Church of Christ has no earthly headquarters or convention. Each congregation is totally automonous and it's leaders are a group of men with specified qualities listed in Timothy and Titus. They have no creed book and use the Bible to determine whether something is right or not.

The United church of Christ has headquarters where beliefs and doctrines are determined by vote. That is how things such as homosexual church leaders were allowed as well as women pastors.

The church of the Bible never had women pastors. In fact women were instructed to keep silent in the church. The Bible tells us that the practice of homosexuality is a sin. To select a church leader who professes this lifestyle is mocking God. God set up the way His church should be governed. The churches of Christ follow those instructions and hopefully always will.

As far as the type of Bible we use, our preacher uses the NIV and I have the NIV as well as 4other translations. So not all church of Christ only use King James.

I agree with saved2seek.

The Church of Christ wishes to speak where the Bible speaks, be silent where the Bible is silent, do Bible things in Bible ways, and call Bible things by Bible names.

Sadly, the UCC is a denomination that teaches and practices things that are against scriptural teachings. They add things to their worship without Biblical authority.

I'm sure there are some great people who are members of that church, but you should compare their doctrine to the Bible to see if it is true! (Acts 17:11, 2 Timothy 3:16-17)

In fact, you should compare the things the Church of Christ (and any other group) teaches to the Bible!

If we teach what the Bible teaches, ACCEPT IT! If a church has a doctrine that is not scriptural, REJECT that doctrine!

Let the Bible determine what you believe. Any church should not mind if you compare their teaching to God's Word! In fact, they should insist on it!

I also am a member of a congregation of the Church of Christ. I do not usually use the KJV, but I do see value in selecting a translation that is reliable (the translators tried to be as accurate as possible). I personally use the English Standard Version most often, but I also like the NASB.

They are both denominations. I believe they are very different. UCC's are very liberal and affirming. They welcome gay congregants and even support gay marriage. They are progressive.
