Q. Where in CA are you going ? .There 's a slight differnce in routing between NOCAL & SOCAL. Regardless both destinations start by taking I-80 W to North Platte NE and figuring it out from there,
Q.Any objections to using 2 lane high speed US highwys thru the middle of nowhere ?
You can do it in 4 days and barely break a sweat in the process. 56 hours is hard work But 96 hrs is just loafing along

highway 80 as the one guy said.
I am from Nj and moved to Las Vegas.
South Dakota and Mt. Rushmore was a trip. But in 4 days do not know if you can get there.
Wyoming was a great place to visit.
You will enjoy and on 80 stop in Reno for a visit.

Find the I10 where it start near or in Florida, take the I10west til you get to CA. Good luck!!
