I was wondering about the condensation in the tank from the coolness of the earth, and it mixing with the fuel. This is what I was told growing up , "dodge the station with the tanker". Is this crazy or what?

its completely fine to pump gas at that time. condensation not prob bc of the filters and also the gas tanks are grounded so no friction can happen. the only sparks that could happen is u getting out of your car and causing a spark between u and ur cars metal gas cap.

It is NOT the best idea to fill up when a tanker is loading the gas station.

The pressure of the new gas being pumped into the underground tanks stirs up fine sediments in the tank making it easier to be pumped into your tank which can cause sputtering or lesser mileage, particularly on older/unreliable models.

There are filters but when flushed, like during offloading, the filters can not catch every particle, especially at older gas stations. It's best to wait.

Condensation isn't a real problem as there are filters which will filter out water, dirt, rust, and other crud. I would say it's fairly safe to pump gas while the station is being refueled, although I prefer to avoid it if at all possible. Simply drive around for twenty minutes and then return to the recently refueled station and fill 'er up! Good luck!

While the tanker is dumping fuel all of the crap in the tank is getting stirred up, but today's gas pumps have very good filtration systems that filter the crap and water out before it gets to your car.

Your where told to avoid the ones with the tankers cause you sometimes could get blocked in, and not be able to leave for a few mins. There are other fears of fires and explosions, but those are freak accidents than almost never happen

I usually pump my own gas. Once in a while if the weather is really bad I will go to the full service station and tip maybe a few dollars.

It's safe. Filters take out any impurities. Dangerous is using your cell phone or sliding back into the seat while the pump is on auto.

I see it all the time. I am sure there is a valve that closes the two compartments and opens when necessary.
