i was just curious why do some African Americans covert to islam because they say that christianity is a white man's religion?? Dont they know that arab muslims held Africans as slaves longer than europeans did? Islam even denounces black people. Im not trying to be racist or anything i mean im not even white. But the main religion of Black americans is Islam

The nation of islam functions like a mind control cult and they tell their members that christianity is the white man's religion. A good way to keep members in, even though it's not true. Outside of the cult, blacks realize there are way more black christians than muslims in the west, and that there are millions of christians in africa too. You're right about the slavery issue though, I don't know how they dance around that one (especially when arabic countries like Sudan and Mauritania still enslave blacks...)

I'm not sure where you get that Islam "denounces black people." Maybe your family did, but just because your family does something doesn't make it Islamic.

Many African slaves that were brought to America were from Muslim nations in Africa. It is a way of returning to their roots, and it makes sense to them. But people adopt new religions for different reasons. You shouldn't lump all African American Muslims into one category, and I'm relatively sure Islam is not the main religion of African Americans. The majority are likely Protestant. The majority of American Muslims are African American, though. There's a difference.

That being said, none of the Abrahamic faiths are more "white" than any of the others. They all developed in the same part of the world and all stem from a common prophet, Abraham (as). All people are equal to Allah (swt), unless they are better or worse because of their deeds. That has nothing to do with color.

What the racist people that surrounded you growing up said about black people is not the voice of Muslims or Islam. You should know, being raised in a Muslim family and all, that there is no tolerance of racism in Islam.

NOI, by the way, are still only a tiny tiny percentage of African American Muslims in the US, and are considered to be a primarily political group than a religious one.

I believe that you are refering to the nation of Islam. These teachings has nothing to do with Islam as taught by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Those teachings of the Nation of Islam are really foreign to "Orthodox" Islam. As far as hatred and denouncing blacks, this isn't Islam. In fact, the last speech of Prophet muhammad was in part about no person is better than any other becuase of skin color. One of his close companions was black. Islam teaches that all people are the same. The only thing that makes one better is the faith in ones heart and only Allaah (God) can see.

Actually you are wrong. The Prophet Muhammad said: "No Arab is better than any non-Arab, or a red-skinned (white) man better than a Black man except by his piety." Thats pretty clear to me.

What ever racism that stemmed in the Muslim world was because of cultural influences. Its not part of the religion.

Islam does not denounce black people you liar!

Islam teaches that no one is better than the other except in piety.

.

Yet again -- you have displayed your lack of
any knowledge about both of these groups.

The 'main religion' of "black Americans" is
NOT (in any way, shape or form) 'Islam' --
but rather -- is actually that of 'Christianity'
(and most of them are also 'Protestants').

[[ As an added note -- their largest 'Protestant'
denominational membership is 'Methodist'
(in the from of the denomination known as
'Methodist-Episcopalian' or AME -- and,
contrary to popular myth, it is NOT 'Baptist').

The remaining African-Americans fit into various
forms of largely 'Protestant' denominations ---
with a small group of 'Catholics' following that.]]

Contrary to a false belief --- that tends to be commonly
found among those who prefer to base their perceptions
of a group on 'ignorance-based assumptions', 'media
myths', and 'false stereotypes' --- only a very, very,
very small populace of people who are members
of the African-American Ethnic group are also
followers of the religion known as 'Islam'.

By the way -- is it my imagination or do you
seem to take some sort of pleasure in hopping
all over Yahoo!Answers in order to present
false images of these two groups (presented in
the thinly-veiled form of an alleged "question")?

If so, perhaps someone should inform you that,
rather than coming across as knowledgeable in
any way on the subject matter, you simply
expose your own behavior as being 'trollish'.

Also -- every religious, racial and ethnic group on
the planet and throughout the history of mankind
-- has had some participation in human slavery
(as being both or either the targets or perpetrators
of it -- no matter if it was / is chattel-slavery;
indentured-servitude; wage-slavery; or
any other form of human-bondage).

So your vehement, inaccurate and attack-mode
focus on these two groups of people really
only reveals your motive to appear to be
truly malevolent and rather suspect as well.

For people who are interested in learning
ACCURATE information about either of
these two groups -- good books that are
highly recommend are entitled as follows:

Misinformation about the African-Americans’”
