I have flown several times with Dr. Scholl gel inserts in my shoes. They make you take your shoes off at the xray machine and scan them anyway. I wouldn't think that they would let me pass just because I am an airline employee, so this is just my guess. You gell'n...cause I'm gell'n ;)

It shouldn't be a problem as the gel is a solid and can't be returned to a liquid without a lot of heat. The term gel is a marketing thing they really are a soft plastic.

No. Not in the USA. All shoes are removed and x-rayed. as well as anything else you are carrying. Please be aware that you might also be subject to a special random search.
