God made us in his Spiritual image , not physical.

The word for God, Elohim, is plural. God said we will create man in our own image, male and female. In the image of God, created He them. The fact of the matter is that there is marriage in heaven and Godhood is reserved for male and female. In other words, we do have a Mother in Heaven as well. God has not told us about Her probably to protect Her from our blasphemies, we haven't treated God all that well in our society.
Eliza R. Snow wrote,

I believe that. My wife and I have the opportunity to become like our Father in Heaven. That being said, what will be our role together? Priest and Priestess, King and Queen, God and Goddess. I know that is being presumptious. I have no guarantee at this point that I will live worthily the rest of my days in order to merit such glory. However, that is the promise of an obedient and faithful life and that is what my wife and I strive to achieve. Hopefully, when we return to God's presence, He will state, "well done, thou good and faithful servant, enter into the rest of your Lord."

After (or before - depending on which order you read the verses) God made animals, Adam gave God "the look," and God said he'd make something special for Adam, but he'd run out of matter so he used some of Adam.
Now man had a partner, but everytime they got it on, he was screwing himself.
