The number you provide (-5.25) shows the amount of refractive error correction necessary to provide you "normal" vision, represented in diopters. This is considered moderate myopia (nearsighted, shortsighted) vision.

Refractive error is about how light focuses on the retina within the eye. It is possible that without correction someone -5.25 is legally blind, which is generally 20/400 vision or worse, but with correction that same person may have normal vision.

Blindness due to lack of light sensitivity, neurological disruption, or similar vision limitations that present as darkness does not normally relate to refractive error.

There isn't a number. To be legally blind, you see 20/200 or worse, even though you have the best correction possible. You can even be corrected to -25.00 in some cases without being blind!

You cannot go blind from refractive error. Blindness is caused by eye disease or eye injury.

Blindness means that you see poorly even with your glasses on. It is possible to be -30.00 and not blind and possible to not need glasses at all and be totally blind.
