Do Christians feel any stewardship responsibilities to this world, or does their faith that the will be swept up from it absolve them from this responsibility?

Thanks for the good answersm I am pleased that Christians do not see the earth as a dsiposable item. I should have been more specific since Christianity is such a broad swath of beliefs.

I am specifically asking about the American evangelical Christians.

I recycle, I don't litter, I wash my car at a car wash thus eliminating gray water from going down the city drains, I have my oil changed by someone else who can dispose of it in a proper way. I use the trails and don't walk through the woods. I feel that God created this world and that we have been given the honor and priviledge of taking care of it.

This is an assinine and insane question that really pisses me off.

WHAT DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH CHRISTIANS?

What do you think a Christian is? A Christian is someone who has accepted Christ into their lives and adhere to his teachings and try to live their life like Christ lived his.

RELIGION IS NOT CHRISTIANITY.

Lets put it this way; they know the war is on the way, but they believe that thie so special that ther're going to be raptured away before anything bad occurs! I've got news for ya, if the christians were to just automatically be gone in the twinkling of an eye, there would no longer be a need for the war! It's a christian war!!!! Take them out of the picture & Peace is the result!!! Do they feel responsible for any of this crap? Not even a little bit!!! Praise, jesus, & load your weapons!!! No offense intended to delicate christian ears! It would just be nice if the christian could understand what they are doing to this world, & "STOP IT!!!"

Christians that believe God created the earth for man's permanent home, value it and restrain from damaging it.

But, you may have a point. Some Christians think that they are all going to heaven, and as such, might think nothing of polluting the earth.

"Christians" encompasses quite a massive group of people who can be quite different from one another. Please specify.

In my experience, some Christians tend to buy into the idea that "God granted man dominion over the Earth." Also in my experience, these have tended to be southern, self-proclaimed U.S. patriots, nationalists, and/or politically staunch conservative.

Other Christians tend to cherish and respect the other creations with which God adorned the planet.

interesting question. I respect and revere God above anything on this planet, but of course i am physically here. but that doesn't translate into a disrespect for the planet and the cultures that exist.

because of my beliefs, i know that everything i have belongs to God and that i am merely a steward. and all things that God has blessed me with, must be used to glorify Him and not me.

so i try to tread lightly upon the earth that God created, trying to do no harm, contributing to its care and upkeep.

Both.

The Catholic Church teaches:

In the beginning God entrusted the earth and its resources to the common stewardship of mankind to take care of them, master them by labor, and enjoy their fruits. (Genesis 1:26-29)

For more information, see the Catechism of the Catholic Church, sections 2402: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/pt3sect2chpt2art7.htm#2402

With love in Christ.

Personally, I see the earth as a very, very valuable tool. It is to be used, but with utmost care. How would YOUR boss like it if you crashed the server and nobody knew how to fix it?

no thats just one of the shortcomings of that old myth.
case in point the guy above me.
now we understand that the earth is to be respected.
we could have learned a few things from the native americans
if we wouldnt have slaughtered them.

They feel that they are stewards, and can therefore trash it. I guess.

Which is sad, the Earth is (according to the Bible) God's first, and in my opinion (If he did create it), best work.

The bible sucks. Don't go see it or the movie(s)
