Ok, earlier I asked a question about the definitions of lust and coveting. I asked at what point does a desire (not sexual or "immoral" per se, but just in general) become lust or coveting.

Here is the question:

(hold on, I'll get the link)

Then I answered another question that kind of goes along with what I meant in the first question. So anyway, my answer is here (it ends with the same question again).

Sorry I know it's kind of long, but can you help me out in any way?

Ok here's the link to the original question.http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AkhUozJwxiB5VvujJc.eGpLsy6IX?qid=20070809190453AA6hKCK

I'm actually talking about desiring things like God's will, to know more about His will, desiring His desires, and I guess just being impatient in general, but anyway...........

Also feel free to answer the first question still if you haven't and as long as it's still open.

Thanks and many blessings.

Primoa,
What about if we're not doing anything...just waiting on God. I know we ought to just be content and happy, but therein lies the problem.

Also, one might argue that we "step on people and lose friends" for the gospel. Even Jesus did that. he did all out of love, but people got offended and we know that not everyone wants to be His friend.

You know when you are lusting. It feels like sin. It feels dirty. You can't get it off your mind.

If you look at a guy that is really hot and say, "he's hot" and get over it, that's not lust that is just appreciating someone who is good looking. But if you look at that guy, and get hot and a steamed up and get that tingly feeling all over and can't stop thinking about it, that is lust. You can just feel the difference. Lust makes people do what they know they shouldn't be doing. If you give in to lust it can lead to STD's, unwanted pregnancy, AIDS, broken families, lost friendships. Lust's grip is a really tight one so watch out and beware.

Coveting is wrong when you desire something that someone else has so strongly that you can't stop thinking about it. Coveting to the point of not liking the person who owns it because you are jealous. When you covet you become bitter and angry. You don't appreciate what you have but only look at what others have. We are to be genuinely happy for others who have nice things, good families, great jobs & income. We are not to wish we were in their shoes. Coveting is obsessing about someone elses life and all it entails. Not a good thing to do. Will make you miserable.

Sorry, I got lost in all that... sorta like walking into the middle of a movie.

Lust is to desire something to satisfy a sinful desire.

To covet is to desire something that belongs to another where you plot as to how to acquire it illegally.

God's will for mankind in general is given in John chapter 6. This is a good place to start regarding God's will.

If you truly are searching for understanding....

Now is what I believe and I hope I explain it in a way that I can be understood.
Mt 7:22-23 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

It seems we are living in a day of performance and show. Their are many Christians who spread the gospel, teach a sunday school class, sing specials, play the piano and many other things that were good in their intentions, but not led by the Spirit of God. Our works have to be accomplished by the power and initiation of the Holy Spirit in the life of a believer.

When we start doing works on our own accord then it's like we're saying we don't need God anymore. That we already know to talk the talk and walk the walk. We're call by God to fix our eyes on Jesus and have a hidden life before we have a public life. That verse is found in
Mt 6:6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
So before you plant any seeds your to seek God first in private. If you don't have a private prayer life then you have no business doing anything public for God. I hope this helps and doesnt sound to confusing. If you have any more questions you can email me. God bless

It is my opinion that if you desire something it is from the heart. If you lust after something it is from the mind. Although many people can not differentiate the two. God Bless.

I suppose when we really really want something....and we will do just about anything to get it.....that's when it becomes lustful and selfish.

Are we willing to step on people to get it?
Are we willing to lose friends because of it?

That's when it becomes a problem

Edit:
Just like someone answered to my question earlier.....faith without works is dead. Although, how do we know when not to work?

Good question.....
