The Bible never specifically mentions masturbation or states whether masturbation is a sin. There is no question, however, as to whether the actions that lead to masturbation are sinful.
The Bible teaches us, "Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God" (1 Corinthians 10:31). If there is room for doubt as to whether it pleases God, then it is best to give it up. There is definitely room for doubt in regards to masturbation. "For whatsoever is not of faith is sin" (Romans 14:23). I do not see how, according to the Bible, masturbation could be considered glorifying to God. Our bodies, as well as our souls, have been redeemed and belong to God. "What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's" (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).

Some think that, for men at least, it is a waste of sperm.

All I can tell you is the reasoning the Roman Catholic Church considers it sinful. To the RCC, sexual intercourse or action of any kind is something that is only to be shared by a husband and wife under circumstances that are open to the possibility of procreation. So by this reasoning, masturbation, extra-marital sex, homosexual sex, and even birth control are all considered sinful things.

(Not saying I agree or disagree, btw, just stating the teaching.)

The Evils and Harms of Masturbation

By al-'Allaamah Muqbil Ibn Haadee al-Waadi'ee

An extremely beneficial explanation on the harms of masturbation. Many proofs from the Qur'aan and aahaheeth are brought forth to show that this disease is not natural or permissible. Notes on the mental and physical detriment are mentioned along with the cure.

‘We were young when we were with the Prophet, and he said to us, ‘O young men, whoever is able to marry should do so, for indeed it will help to lower one’s gaze and to protect the private parts (from illegal sexual acts). And whoever is not able to marry should fast, because it will reduce his sexual desire.’’

Shaykh Muqbil Ibn Haadee states in his introduction:

"The issue of masturbation is one that scholars of the past and more recent times have differed about and the questions about the subject have increased. I was even requested to author a book on the matter but was not firmly grounded in it. But then, I came across a written report by Imaam ash-Shawkaanee that was checked and verified by the Brother Abdullaah bin Saalih al-Waadi’ee and suddenly the foot of ash-Shawkaanee (rahimahullaah), slipped; he had followed those who say it is permissible to masturbate if necessary. So then I thought to broaden the arguments and collect the evidences from the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allaah (may the Peace and Blessings of Allaah be upon him and his family) for they are the proof."

Back in the Old Testament they thought that semen had tiny little people in it. They didn't know about the biology of sperm and ova. Therefore, when a man masturbated, and his semen went anywhere except into a woman, he was literally murdering those tiny little people in his semen. The Old Testament didn't much care what women did, since they were owned by their husbands like sheep or cows.

Today, the Catholic church has a very strict tradition about the "sancitity of life." So far, after all these centuries, it has kept its hard-line stand that genitals are for making babies only! Any orgasm that happens outside of a man/woman, rubberless sex act is sin. That includes masturbation.

But remember: the injunction against masturbation was never ex-cathedra. That means it never was presented as infallable. In all matters that aren't ex-cathedra, a Christian is bound to follow his own conscience over a specific church teaching.

Most priests I know will tell a kid not to worry too much about it. If he/she feel guilty after masturbating, then go ahead and confess it, but not to let it bother you overly much. They know it's a natural part of life.

I think that depends on when,(how much) where, why, and who. There's a time and a place for everything uno. There are some people you just don't want or need to know are doing it and what or who they're thinking about. There has to be a limit.

2352..."The deliberate use of the sexual faculty, for whatever reason, outside of marriage is essentially contrary to its purpose." For here sexual pleasure is sought outside of "the sexual relationship which is demanded by the moral order and in which the total meaning of mutual self-giving and human procreation in the context of true love is achieved."
