Marrying a green card holder does not mean you wil ge the green card. you may get a visa but it may not allow you to work in the US, just to be there with your new spouse.
Marrying a US citizen means your new spouse can start the processus of getting you the green card, he/her only can apply for you for a green card and as soon as the request is dropped you will receive within 3 weeks or so a temporary paper allowing you to work.
