Punk rock is about not only anti-establishment, but anarchy.

Christianity is about conformity.

HOW can these two co-exist? Someone give me a valid, near-bulletproof argument, you'll get 10 points.

No there cant be just like there can not be a black metal christian band but people are still likely to argue the fact. Its hypocrisy however and that word is a common thing in religion.

I haven't seen much punk rock since the 80s. Today it appears to be more of a fashion look based on what some punks wore back in the day. Look at Blink 182 and some of the emo hacks. If they can do it and lay claim to it, then why not some Christian band?

If nothing else, the irony can provide immense hilarity.

I picture 100 kids raising their arms to the sky while they slam dance. It's worth a chuckle.

I went to a concert by a group I had heard on the radio. The Christian group played mostly 'ballads' , good songs on radio.

When i got there, it turned out to be more "christian hard/punk rock" then anything else.
I couldn't understand a word they said the music was so loud, and i was miserable. Then i looked forward. I saw kids raising their hands, praying, praising , etc.

Our modern church music was considered contemporary at one time. The "southern Gospel" is old fashioned country with Gospel message.

When Jesus spoke he spoke in parables. These parables were related to the things the people understood.. Gardens, kings/peasants, sheep, fishing, etc. The message was always geared toward something they could relate too.

I think this is what the PUNK Christian bands have tried to do.

I may not like it, but then , i don't have to,.. It is not geared to me.

There are many punk rock christian bands. The punk rock is the style of music the christian part is the lyrics. There is a Christian alternative to almost any band you can think of. They just put positive lyrics to the type of music. I've heard alot of Christians put down this type of music. We just put on a huge battle of the bands at our church. There were 6 different styles of music being played. The adults hated it because some of it you couldn't understand( the screamo band) but the kids loved it. As long as they are getting the message of God out there who cares how they do it?

Actually Punk rock is a style of music, not neccessarily the attitude of those who perform and play the music in the band. Besides these days kids label themselves like crazy not truly understanding what those labels ACTUALLY mean...such as "prep" which would really be a term used for someone attending prep school.
So not only is it only the style of music, but also the label given the style based on those who first developed that type of music. One could also say that it is not the style of music, but the message of the music...if it is a Christian band then the band may be tying to reach those within the Christian community who enjoy the style of music, so they pair the style with the Christian message. I agree with bro_tj1. These bands are trying to reach out with different types of music to reach different types of people.

Christians are against the forming of a so-called "New World Order" (one-world government) that most government officials have wanted to create for generations. If it's against that, it would work, since speaking against the NWO is anti-conformity.

Most of today's "Christian punk" doesn't talk about that, though, and is just another type of music using Christian lyrics. Does it work? Some think so, some don't. It's an opinion thing that isn't right or wrong, and is a matter of preference, not sin.

Well, living in a world where it is taboo to be a Christian isn't it then anarchy to believe in Christ.

Or even just the fact that it is not mainstream Christian music. Some Christian's flat out HATE Christian punk. It's an abomination, etc.

People really believe that Christian Rock Music or Punk or even Contemporary Christian Music like that girl who sang 'baby baby' is leading you down the path to sin.

Therefore it is my OPINION that Christian Punk IS about non-conformity.

Anberlin. http://www.myspace.com/anberlin

And have you heard of the Christian Anarchists? Its not a band, but a movement. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_anarchism

Lastly, the meaning of punk rock has changed. Punk rock of today is nothing like The age of the Ramones, Sex Pistols, or their like. Its not a movement. Its a genre.

And about Christianity being about conformity.. well its also about marketing and attracting the youth.

Punk rock can be about anything the artist chooses it to be. The words are what is important.

No one has to conform to the stereotype that punk rock is only about anti-establishment & anarchy.

That's what's so great about being an artist:
The freedom to create what we feel in our hearts.

As a Christian- I believe that any music used to the glory of God is wonderful- because different styles of music - touch people in different ways- however- I also have learned, being a instrumentalist and vocalist myself, we have to be very careful that we do not have the music style become more important than God and worship. When Amazing grace was written-the melody was a bar song. God has used it to minister to others and worship God- so if the music is used for the glory of God, the style does not matter. The text must not contradict scripture either.
