Not really - it is a member of the "deadly nightshade" family (like tomatoes and potatoes) and some people should avoid them (like those with arthritis) but it is fine to eat raw or cooked - most people prefer it cooked as it is pretty bitter raw. I don't ever "drain or salt" my eggplant (as is the norm) I usually grill or bake it for best flavor. Good Luck!

Someone told me raw eggplant is poisonous... the toxins can only be cooked out. How true is this?

that's impossible unless it's loaded with pesticides i presume....there's loads of vegan meals with raw eggplants...the only thing i've heard is that ones with loads of seeds tend to be bitter that's all.

Egg plant is poisonous to dogs, so don't feed any leftovers to them.

This is false, people just think that because it is a relative of the nightshade plant. People used to think the same thing about tomatoes.
