Try to take different routes when you do long runs. Something new and interesting.
Listening to music can help. Especially if you have a favorite song or something that really motivates you, playing that song when you get slowed down can give you an energy boost.
Running with other people can help keep it interesting.

I think the key is to think about anything besides running -- thinking about running while running is like thinking about typing while typing! Let your mind wander. Let music and lyrics suggest a mood and go with it. Take in the scenery, notice a new detail, replay a memory, plan an event, ponder a question, etc.

I listen to my shuffle when I run and that helps keep my mind occupied. Sometimes I take a different route and enjoy the scenery. I also run with somebody once in awhile and we chat while we run and the time flys by.

Music and new scenery. Don't run the same way everyday, run different routes. Plan out your day, pray, make up a story as to why you are running (escaped wrongly convicted prisoner running from CIA)

I think about my school work or upcoming races. Run with someone, too and you can talk. Sometimes I try and write new lyrics to the tune of whatever song is stuck in my head to better fit my life. Weird...but it does chew up some time.

I always have my ipod with all my favorite music on it and what I do is think about all I need to do today or what I need to get done. Then if a certain song is on I imagine myself running for my life or trying to get to someone because they need help.

The purpose of doing long runs is to do long runs. You enjoy the scenery, count steps, listen to your body, lots of things. Adding artificial distraction is just that and defeats the purpose of a long run, which partly is to train your brain to endure - mind over matter.

I run in new places as often as possible. change it up, trail running vs. road running. parks vs. streets. mountains. hiking trails. good music on your ipod. once, my g/f and I picked a little cafe we had been to, ran there, ate breakfast and cooled down, then ran home. we just sat there after eating, hanging out and chatting until we were ready to run again. we sat outside of course, that would just be offensive to sit inside all sweaty and nasty from running:) lol.

If you're getting bored, you're not running hard enough. Push the pace harder and you'll be too tired to get bored.

Look in the windows of the houses you pass and make up stories about what's going on inside.
