If your legal permanent resident boyfriend marries you and files an immigrant visa petition, it would take about 5 years before you would be eligible for your own green card, unless he becomes an American citizen first. Until that point, you wouldn't have any status at all, unless you became eligible for something else that might give you a green card, like the Diversity Visa Lottery program. If you entered the US illegally, you would have to leave the US before you could be considered eligible for an immigrant visa and a green card.

If you marry a guy with a green card, then you'll be the wife of some guy with a green card, and nothing more.
