Whenever we go to the supermarket these workers would stare at my daughter and try to strike up a conversation with her. They also seem to follow her wherever she goes in the store. My daughter has been extremely bothered by their attention, and now she refuses to go shopping with me. She doesn't dress at all in a provocative manner and does nothing to lead those men on. Should I speak to their manager about this?

My daughter is 15, and I'm guessing those men are in their 20's.
She doesn't wear revealing clothing, but she is very beautiful and a lot of people stare at her. I don't want to get those men fired for just being men; however, I do miss shopping with my daughter

That wouldn't be a bad idea. You could also comment on their work, or lack thereof.

First, how old is your daughter and how old are the men?

If your daughter is over 18 and these men are in their 20's or early 30's, I would question what your daughter is doing to attract this kind of attention.

Men look at women. However, they look at women differently. They look at pretty and beautiful women, in awe..they don't "oogle" them.

You used the term "oogling", is she dress provocatively or not for her age. Are her shorts too short, are her tops too tight.

Answer yourself these questions before you run and report some workers.

Not defensing their behavior, but if your daughter is putting herself out there negatively, why report some these workers and get them fired.

I consider myself and attractive person. I've been the women men have awed. I've also made some bad fashion choices, and I've been oogled. However, what I was wearing and the way I was carrying myself, is what caused this.

If you carry yourself with respect, men won't oogle you. They'll probably be intimidated by you. If you put out that idea of not respecting or upholding yourself, you're going to attract negative attention.

If the situation has gotten bad enough that your daughter is too intimidated to go to the store, that is sexual harrasment. Frankly, as a mother, I don't understand why you haven't given those creeps a piece of your mind already, I would have. Next time this happens, just turn to them and say, "You do know that my daughter is only 15 years old, right?" Most guys would apologize on the spot after a comment like that. Let them know if you ever see them hanging around you again that you'll have them fired.

It would help to bring this question into perspective to know what your daughters age is. If she 12, this is obviously a problem, and talking to the manager is warrented. If she's 16 or 17, and she's still bothered by that kind of attention, my concern would be more for her. Maybe I'm wrong, but adulthood is filled with receiving that kind of attention. Part of the teenage years is learning to cope with it. If your daughter is on the cusp of adulthood, and just talking to men is this stressful for her, she may have a real problem.

Perhaps the chaps do not realize how young she is. Many 15 year olds look older. A beautiful woman/girl always gets stared at.

Agreed, you could have a quiet word with the lads in private. Your daughter will know this (you, no doubt, will tell her) and she may find this even more embarrassing.

If its really that bad, by all means. But, i bet if you just gave the workers a good "f*** off!" that will probably drive them away. Of course that might causes a scene too, but itll embarass them enough to stop following. Of course make you catch them in the act. The worst thing you could do is ignore them.

Guys like this are just bored out of their minds and are looking for some fun. If you show them that it pisses you off theyll likely stop (unless their jerks in which case a good swift kick in the...)

I would speak to the manager and tell him or her that if this doesn't stop, you'll shop somewhere else. It is rude for workers to treat any customer this way, pretty or not. They are in the wrong, trying to talk with her and following her are intimidating actions and are not appropriate.

Absolutely, that is disgusting. You can talk to them if the manager does nothing.

If she's underaged, then I'd turn around and address them. Tell them she's underaged and that you'd appreciate them minding their own business and leaving her alone. If it continued, then I would contact the store manager.
