what can you get for 12k?

That is like $11K too much IMO. That could be $11K into your wedding or into a HOUSE or into your 401K~!

However if you can afford it without going bankrupt more power to you.

If my fiance spent that much on my ring, after he regained consciousness from my whacking him on the head we'd be going back to exchange it for a more reasonably priced ring!

A Very Nice Ring.

If you can afford it, get it.

Don't listen to what other people say. I believe a ring (of any size or amount) is a keepsake.

It's something you should have and wear to you are 90.

You could get a great quality ring for 12K. Plus, IMO, jewelry is never a waste of money. It's an investment. If you ever are in a bind, you can resell your jewelry for about what you bought it for or more (if it's unique or vintage/antique) .

Plus, good classic jewelery never goes out of style. Haven't you seen little old ladies in the grocery store w/ their wedding rings on. They are gorgeous (and large too) and those are usually 40 or 50 years old.

If you think of it this way, 12K is not a lot of money for something you'll wear for the next 50/60 years.

When you think about it, that $17 a month for the next 60 years. That's nothing. Everyone gets their panties in a bunch b/c it's such a large amount being spent at one time. But, over time, it's a good investment.

If you want to spend that much, and you can, then do it. You can get a fairly nice rock for that much. Make sure you always focus on *quality* before size.

If you are spending a large amount and have extra money, I also suggest making a donation to charity as well. Perhaps a food bank that serves a lot of children. Call me strange, but I would feel so guilty and selfish for spending that much. I'm not bashing you at all, of course I would love to get that ring, but I want to make sure that I have also helped someone else.

You can get a perfect diamond (or near flawless) in a .5 karat for about a little less than $4000-$5000 in most cases. You should be able to get at least a .75 in the same quality for 12k. You *may* be able to get a 1 karat if you get a deal.

Top qaulity diamonds are *very* expensive.

Good luck!

You could pay for your wedding with 12k. You could buy a fantastic diamond ring, probably at least 2 carats for around 3-5 thousand. 12 thousand dollars on the engagment ring is quite rediculous unless you're paris hilton. My ring cost 2 thousand and it's absolutely perfect. It's 1.5 carats and I can wear it all the time. A 12 thousand dollar ring would definitely not be something to wear all the time, in my opinion. Think wisely, do some shopping. If you decide to spend 12k, go to Tiffany's.

12k Ring

Whether 12K is alot depends on how much money you make. An engagement ring is supposed to be 1/3 of a man's yearly salary.
The last three weddings I have been to were of middle class women and they have rings that probably cost no more than 5grand. Someone else I know, whose husband makes well over 100,000 a year has a MONSTER diamond solitare that you can't help but look at even after seeing it on her hand fifty times.
AND it all depends on where you get it. 12K will go alot further (bigger, I should say) at say Shane Co. than Tiffany & Co. because of the designers, etc.
Schlumberger engagement rings at Tiffanys START at 26grand.
So, it depends on your woman. What you can get depends alot on what you are looking for. I suggest researching the grades of diamonds and knowing the color/cut/clarity and then figuring out what kind of band/setting she would like, and go from there. www.Bluenile.com has alot of diamond facts.

My fiance didn't spend 12k for the engagement ring but about that for the engagement ring and wedding band.

Just remember to get insurance on the ring. Once you give it to her, it has to be insured under her homeowners/renters insurance policy not yours if you go that route.

We got a 1 carat round brilliant cut diamond, color D, clarity SI1 that has a Jeff Cooper setting with four princess (square) diamonds on each side of the main diamond in a platinum setting. The wedding band is also platinum and is complementary by curving around the main diamond of the engagement ring and has 3 princess cut diamonds, followed by 3 round diamonds, followed by 3 princess cut diamonds.

Hope this helps! Good luck with your search.

you can get a BIG OLE diamond for 12k, most 1 carat rings cost between 1 grand and 3 grand depending on the quality of the diamond. You can buy ME a 12K engagement ring.

Wow, now I feel bad about my ring, it's half carat total and the hub paid about 700 for it.

I dont see why ppl spend so much money on the engagement ring , you can use that money towards your wedding or even something more important like purchasing a new home , car , or even for a nice honeymoon . 12k will get you a nice ring but you can get an even nicer ring for a fraction of the cost . My engagement ring including the wedding band cost 3k and its simple to me and I think he paid way too much . But hey if you can afford it then I say do it just make sure you put insurance on the ring.

12k would buy you a super nice ring! If you do have the money to spend, you could look at an excellent quality platinum 2 carat ring. She'll be blown away :-) Congrats! Just be sure you express your love for her as much as your willingness to spend money as that's what counts.

12 k is not a ridiculous amount to spend people!! Do you even know what a good 1ct diamond costs? This man will be able to buy his fiance a beautful ring. This is the ring that she will wear forever. It is all about the clarity of the diamond. And that is where the cost comes in. So I dont think that it is too much to spend. What can you get??? 1.5ct good clarity and a platnum setting.
