1st off well done for the weight loss-I would suggest trying some exercise if you are not doing so already(30 minutes gentle) just to keep your metabolism up -also put chili sauce on meat and similar this helps digestion -can I ask what you were eating before?

I think my lifestyle is the exact opposite of the Atkins diet. I eat at least five servings of whole grains a day, fruits and veggies, beans, tofu, soy, etc. No meat and no dairy. Yet, I maintain a healthy weight. Before my baby, I was somewhat steady between 160 and 170, which was dependant on little things, like my activity level, what I was and wasn't eating, etc. I've not only upped my caloric intake (calories from good, whole, healthy, natural foods do not matter) since my pregnancy. At eight months, I've only gained about 20-25 pounds.)
I have a friend who was on Atkins for awhile. He lost weight, but also had heard and cardiovascular problems. From what I understand of Atkins, it's heavy on meat and it seems that all carbs are evil. A few years ago, one of my parents' neighbors gave them a couple of bushels of apples from his tree telling my father that he "couldn't" have them because he was on the Atkins diet. I've never dieted (well, the pop-culutre definition of "diet") in my life and couldn't figure out why apples were bad. I happily took some and ate them.
For every meal, I try and do at least one whole grain, one protein and a veggie or fruit. During the day, I snack on whole wheat toast, fruits, veggies, etc. Overall, I try and get at least five or six servings of whole grains, five or six servings of vegetables and fruit (I count my eight ounce cup of OJ as a serving; I only drink the juice because it's fortified with calcium and folic acid) and at least ten grams of protein per meal (i.e., beans, veggie "meats", tofu, etc.)
I never got dieting. Before I realized what I was and wasn't putting in my body, I ate what I wanted when I wanted, which included two or three fast food trips a week. Eventually, I realized that most of what I was doing to myself (eating frankenfoods, drinking more soda and coffee than water, smoking, not exercising, etc.) was not good. I learned from where my food was and wasn't coming from. I chaned my lifestyle. Three years later, I'm still going strong, if not stronger.
