I'm not talking about, "God, please let me win the lottery" types of prayer. I'm talking about, "God, please heal my infant child of the terminal disease she was born with so that she might have a chance to love and serve you?" prayer.

Because sh*t happens, and God does not wave a magic wand every time it does. For one thing, if he allowed everyone who asked for it to live, the population would be really overwhelming.. lol.

Good question.
God does answer such prayers, but not in a way that might satisfy you.
His choice is to cure people one by one, or wait for an approropriate time and do a class-action ....that is, cure everyone at the same time.
Even deal with death.
He has chosen the latter.
All things will end-up as mentioned in Isaiah 33:24
".And no resident will say: “I am sick.. . ."
Have a peak as well at Revelation 21:3,4.

God answers prayer based on His will and good pleasure. Not to sound harsh, but if God decides to take a child to Heaven at a young age, who are we to question that? God has the perfect right to do with His creation what He desires to do. We do not have the mind of God, nor see into the future as He does, that is why we trust that He knows best. We, as believers, lean on Romans 8:28 -

But we know that to the ones loving God all things work together for good, to those being called according to purpose;

We trust that all things are working for our good, even if we don't see it now or understand it.

Because that may not be His Will. Have you ever considered the fact that the hurting of one can help many? Or else He is preventing her child from something that would have happened in her future, that could have been much worse than an infant death, or have caused more deaths than hers alone.

We as humans have this tendency only to see the bad things that have happened. Why don't you say "What if...." a little more often and look at all the things that God prevents in our every day life.

We have a divine spirit, but an animal body. The natural laws in place that drive the universe also drive that body. Messing with that isn't part of the deal, so, as awful as it is, some kids do suffer, and it's left to us to question why.

God knows what's best and He can't grant everything that people wish for. Bad things happen to good people and there's a reason for everything.
