Last year I had successful surgery for epilepsy. Trouble is recently the daughter of a woman I work with died from epilepsy. Too much of her brain was damaged to operate on and therefore she would just have to suffer.
Also another person who I knew who had seizures has also died. He went into a major seizure and have sever shut down on his organs. So I feel guilty as I'm now able to control my seizures with drugs but others I know of have died :(.

It's called survivor's guilt. Talk to your doctor or a counselor. They are the ones who can help you help yourself. Unfortunately, beyond suggesting that, Yahoo Answers isn't really the best place to be getting answers on this.

Talk to your doctor - he can help you best.

On that reckoning, we should all feel guilty for having better health than others. I feel guilty now that you have epilepsy and I don't. See what I mean?

Also, I'm sure those people who died from their epilepsy would be glad to know that at least for some people (you) there is a chance of controlling the seizures. Be happy for yourself as they would be, and as I'm sure your family and loved ones are. You owe it to them to make the most of a chance that's been given to you that not many years ago you wouldn't have had. And you owe it to them to enjoy every minute that extra chance has given you.

God makes people in a billion different ways. You should not feel guilty about this at all. I have MS but still walk pretty well. I can drive, cook, clean, etc, but I know people that can't even get up out of the chair anymore. You have to accept what happens to others and be thankful that you are as healthy as you are. God doesn't make mistakes. Maybe you are a survivor for a reason.

You were just lucky, because you survived.God spaired you for whatever reason. He has a plan for us all, even if we don't know what it is or even if we don't agree.I thought my world was over as a child ,when my mother died.I used to wonder if I'd been there that day if I could have stopped the accident she was in.It took counseling and time to get over my guilt and frustration.Sounds like maybe you need this too.Talking to a counselor helped me the most. It's been 27 years since her accident, and I'm okay, and one day you'll be able to move on and say the same.Good luck, hope this helps.

Don't feel guilty, sweetie. You are starting a life without seizures, and you must enjoy it. They are always people who aren't as lucky, but we each have to make the best of our lives, for however long we have it.

Good luck.
xx

Hi,
well done for the sucessful operation, try not to feel guilty.
Is there an one you can share your feeling of guilt with?
It must be very hard on you seeing these people die, when you know you have had the operation, but you can not blame yourself for what has happened.
Please try and talk to friend or go and see your doctor, who might be able to help more,
Good luck for the future and take care.

You have to learn to control your feelings over things you have no control of. If you are feeling guilty because you feel lucky... DON'T. Be thankful that you have good health and worry about improving and enjoying your own life and those close to you.

what you are feeling is very normal. and it shows what a kinda and compassionate person you are. it is just something you are going to have to come to grips with and i know it is hard but just thank God that it worked for you and and pray that others will have the same success. GOD BLESS you and i am very happy for you.
