Get the macro lens offered by your camera manufacturer. A lower-cost alternative would be a macro lens made by Tamron or Tokina or Sigma for your camera.

A macro lens is designed for extreme close-up photography and corrected to give a flat-field image. It is extremely sharp and will give you excellent results.

A macro lens is not to be confused with zoom lens that say "MACRO" on them. Such an "imposter" will give a 1:4 (1/4 life size) reproduction A true macro will give you either 1:2 (1/2 life size) or 1:1 (life size) images. Some offer the 1:1 without any attachments and some have a special spacer. A focal length of 90mm to 100mm gives you a better working distance from the subject.
