In Corinthians, Paul taught:
“Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
“For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s”
We can defile our body by that which we take into it as well as by that which we do to its external surface. I believe most other Christian denominations feel the same way.

Their main purpose is to bring others to Christ. They do this by teaching and serving. For some, this means knocking on doors and meeting people. If those people are interested, they teach them about (or just more about) Christ. They can be around people who have tattoos and even around those who drink (though I doubt any missionary would want to spend time trying to teach a drunk...that would be a bit fruitless). They can't have regular jobs or date. They can't be alone with a single member of the opposite sex. They can't watch television or read unapproved books (though all of this only while they're missionaries. Mormons can do all of those things, obviously). They can study the scriptures and spend their time getting to know people in their area. It's hard work, but it's so much fun. I had to be dragged home from my mission, kicking and screaming all the way. I loved it.

Our body is viewed as a temple and gift from God as witnessed by the answers above me.
That said, I am a member of the LDS Church and I have a tattoo. To some that would make me evil, and I am ok with that.

The body is considered a temple of God, a scared place for the spirit. They believe you should not intensionally mark up or distroy the temple. They even believe you should consume healthy foods and stay away from harmfull substances such as caffine or smoking. It is what is called a word of wisdom. Now this is just a belief not a commandment in nature. We all could learn from their belief on health and how we should care for our bodies.
I was raised LDS, and if you get a view you question I can help with that. I am not going to debate with the many idiots who religion bash. Your not worth my time and will get no response. I care less what you think or what you believe. I am answering a sincere person question only.

the lds religion views the body as a 'gift' - a 'temple' which houses the part of God's spirit used to create you and give you the essence of life and individuality. As such, they recommend against tatoos.
They also caution against an attitude of rebellion. I know some lds members who do have tatoos, and nobody really cares.

I have one. Very discretely placed. It is generally "frowned upon" because it is damaging the body which we consider a "temple". However, there is nothing scriptural or doctrinal about whether or not to have one or many or none.

It is discouraged, but no major problem. I knew a Primary President with a smiley sun on her ankle. Many converts have them, and nobody says anything.
