Everytime I listen to the mother she seems like a robot to me.

I hope I'm not havin to pay to feed them. As long as their are self-supporting, thier business is their business. If they are full of food stamps and welfare, then they shouldn't be haivng more children.
I also think that the Christian morals they teach their children is something we can all learn from.

She's not a robot, and she isn't having all those kids because Jim is "making her". In fact, it was her idea. She had had 2 miscarriages when she was younger and decided that was G-d's punishment for using birth control. Also they are not Mormons. They live in Arkansas, not far from where I live and if I remember correctly are non-denominational Christians. I think their family is their own business, but I do worry about the fact that the kids seem to be some kind of weird conglomerate: all have names that start with J, all dress alike, and the older ones are assigned to help care for the younger ones. They don't get any individual type attention, and they don't go to school or any other activities, where they may get "secular" ideas. I don't know how kids raised that way can function when they get out in the world on their own.

I saw them interviewed on the Today Show.
While I admire the family, I am quite amazed that one woman can have so many uncomplicated pregnancies that resulted in (what seem to be) perfectly healthy children. Statistically speaking, I really wonder how long her luck and her body could hold out. If it wasn't so personal, I'd be interested to know if she had any miscarriages.

She is a robot..all of the children and wives of mormon families are robots...at least thats the way it seems! As others said I certainly hope that they are not on welfare so that I have to pay to feed their 17 kids!
Do you also notice that all of the children wear the same outfits as each other everyday? Red shirt and jeans..or khakis...seems like cult behavior to me!

They seem ok i guess. But i saw a show with them. And to me it looked like the older kids were raising the younger ones (they called it a buddy system or something but it was more like a built in babysitter thing (change the diapers, dicipline the younger kids, play and watch them, etc))...That's where I have the problem. KIDS SHOULD NOT RAISE KIDS!!! but if they want to have a large family and can amange them all, then go ahead

This story makes me angry. First, do any of these children feel "special" or get individualized love, attention and intellectual nurturing? Secondly, these parents show total disregard for the world's most serious environment issue: overpopulation. They say openly that they want more! They need to be cut off. If they want MORE, they should adopt some of the world's babies who desperately need love, shelter, food and a chance to reach their potential.

I like watching the show and wish them the best of luck.

I do wander if the only reason they can handle 17 kids, is the fact that each older sibling is paired with a smaller sibling. Anyone can deal with 17 kids if they are "pawned" off on someone else.

I don't know...its not for me to judge.

She also has tv cameras shoved in her face every second...I know a lady who has 17 and will have a brief show, but I guarantee she's not perfect...No one is...She seems nice, and organized, but there are still things that go wrong in their family, just like anyone else's. I know they chose to have this tv thing, but it still cant be easy!
