The heart doesn't just stop....something has to happen to cause it to stop, this is usually accompanied by severe chest pain and shortness of breath, cold sweats, nausea and pain radiating down the left arm and up the left neck and jaw.

There is such a thing as sudden cardiac death. This has to do with an electrical problem with the heart which causes an arrhythmia (irregular heart beat) that is not compatible with life. If a person has a family history of sudden cardiac death they should probably be evaluated by a cardiologist. There may not be any signs or symptoms. Many times this is what happens to young athletes although it is not limited to one age group. This is different from a heart attack, which is related to an interruption in the blood flow through the coronary arteries which surround the heart. This can also be fatal, but is usually preceded by chest discomfort, such as pressure, tightness or aching. Also can be associated with radiation into the arms, neck or jaw. Sometimes nausea and sweating occur.

IF the Heart suddenly stops there wud be no sign & symptoms as it is instantaneous & no time is left to feel any symptoms but it is more in older people & middle aged with massive heart attack or cadiac arrest or some diseases of conduction system. If there is some time the symptoms felt wud be pain chest, sweating ,vertigo ,sudden fall of BP with shock ,severe sweating ,feeling of impending doom etc.
