Sure. It's always polite to bring something to a gathering. I would bring something to contribute to it instead of a present. You can knock 2 birds out with one stone by bringing a bottle of wine if you do want to give them a gift.

I think it's appropriate to not come empty handed to a celebratory party like an Anniversary, especially if the hosts are providing all the food/drinks. It's best to avoid giving alcohol, even a harmless bottle of wine/champagne, because not everyone drinks.
A gift card/certificate to a local restaurant is always a nice idea. It's something both of them can enjoy, it's a nice way of saying 'thank you for the invitation' & 'congratulations', it's less personal than a Hallmark card, and in most cases, they're fairly inexpensive. $25 is a great start. But spending more than that is a personal choice.

How close are you to this co-worker? If so, then you would have a fairly good idea if she would like the flowers or not. Personally, I think it's a nice idea. It will still be a sad day but it is nice that someone remembers. You don't have to get a big arrangement- maybe a bud vase with some roses and baby's breath. A little card saying "Thinking of you today" or something like that.

You could offer to bring a side dish or a dessert for the BBQ. For the anniversary, you could give them a card & a bottle of wine.

Bring a bottle of wine or champagne just to be nice. A card is always an acceptable gift.

Okay I was going to suggest the wine thing but then I read the balloon idea and that just struck me as great. Buy a bunch of helium inflated balloons! That was such an interesting idea! it is casual, fun and quirky~~

I would still bring a gift for the happy couple. Depending on finances, you can do a nice picture frame or a gift certificate to a nice restaurant. Keep it Simple!

I agree with everyone who has answered so far. I just wanted to add that the traditional first anniversary gift is paper. So you might want to get something paper (a gift certificate, maybe) or go with one of the great answers you've gotten already.
Have fun!

Pick up a BBQ tool set at Walmarts.
About $10....It comes in a case and looks really smart.
Watch the cook start using it immediately!
