If this is true, this is a last-ditch attempt to try and make some kind of a "good" outlook on his Presidential legacy. Considering how many people are against him in terms of Iraq, he knows it will take something which really appeals to the masses to go "right" in order for him to have a good name in the history books.

Until some actual action is put towards this, I don't believe it for a minute.

That remains to be seen, Bush knows that a states right case is going to be tested on 01-01-08 when Arizona
Employer Law comes into effect. The court will decide the legality of States enacting immigration laws. The Court just invalidated the Hazleton Pa. law last week.

GW is for GW, I'll believe it when I see it. I'm afraid to get my hopes up as he has let us down so miserably in the past. This should never have happened in the first place, allowing a bunch of peasants to lead us around by the nose and demand we give them anything they want. I don't think so! I just can't understand the reason this came to be. I remember America, land of the free, home of the brave, civilized people who were honorable, full of integrity, and allegiance for our nation! It was clean, prosperous, had a code of ethics and morals, values, and pride! We took sh*t from no one! Hope it
is returning to the way it was only better!

I am not anti immigration or anti illegal in anyway. But I do see this as a good thing. I live in New Orleans and this is a city full of illegal labor, thanks go out to them for rebuilding my city.

The thing is, the local police force is not allowed to question ones immigration status. The illegals know this, and they also know that they can drive without a license or insurance, beat their wives and get drunk and stupid without any consequence.

There is a large border patrol and customs force down here, but for anything to really happen the locals need to be able to get involved.

I am not complaining about ones legal status, I could care less. What is bothering me is the fact that I cannot go out and get drunk and drive without going to jail and being fined. If you are going to be here you should have to follow the same rules and receive the same punishments.

It is! The states have always had to deal with the problems presented to their infrastructure, but no power to fix the source.

Lets hope this presents a change.

It is very good news although I'm very leary of Bush's promises. It's about time we began enforcing the law!

I would love to believe it.
In this case, seeing is believing.
Houston is literally crawling with illegal aliens.
I will watch and wait to see how many are arrested on the streets.

It's nice that we can enforce out current laws :)

I still can't believe that Bush wanted to grant amnesty but now wants to enforce the laws!

Republican.
