Science is the study of all the processes that happen on in this planet.

Engineering is using this processes to get something out of it.

For example everything that happens in your car, the engine moving the car, the A/C cooling you down, all materials used to build the car... its all science that has been "engineered" to work together to make one single system.

This is quite a simple explanation. Nice question

Science is research to develop theories, and test those theories against known laws and principles. And even those "known" laws and principles may be proven to be false in light of new research into new fields. Science consists of many fields, too numerous to mention here.

Science is NOT governed by "consensus." Back in the days of Columbus and earlier, it was "consensus" that the earth was flat. That hardly made it correct. Before Copernicus, "consensus" was that the earth was the center of the universe. THAT was also incorrect.

Engineering is the field of taking those discoveries of science and applying them to the production of tools and goods and materials for use in our lives. There are Electrical Engineers, Civil Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, Chemical Engineers ... the list of engineering fields is almost as numerous as those of science.

However, in today's "PC" world, even fields such a janitorial services and trash collection are called "engineers" of their particular line of work. "Sanitation engineers?" Sort of denigrates the classification of "Engineer."

Engineering is the application of what you studied in science.
Now - a - days there is not much of a difference between the two except in the syllabus and the number of years of study.

A scientist looks at something and asks, "Why?"
An engineer looks at something and asks, "How?"

As an example, watching water boil will make a scientist ask, "Why does it do that?" An engineer will ask, "How can we use that?"
