Valtrex will not prevent transmission, it only lessens the risk. Using Valtrex, and a condom and not having sex for a month after an outbreak will decrease the risk, but it is always present. Still, Herpes is not a fatal infection, it is sometimes painful and always irritating, but not fatal, so I suppose it would depend on how much you care about the person. By the way, dating doesn't always mean that sexual encounter is an automatic assumption.

It can be done. Also, there is a vaccine that the noninfected partner can get to prevent getting herpes anyway. So, it can be done safely. Besides, you probably alreadt have the virus yourself and don't even know it.
